JOB REQUIREMENTS - Project Manager, Applications

Project Context
The Project Manager will oversee large-scale, complex, high‑profile, and potentially higher‑risk IT application projects. The role involves contributing to PMO process improvements and supporting junior PMs under the direction of the PMO Director. The PM will work closely with IT senior management, committees, vendors, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with timelines, budgets, and project governance.

Contract Details
  • Duration: 12‑month contract (1+ year project)
  • Extendable: Yes
  • Hours: 40h/week, Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm
  • Remote Work Policy: Fully remote
  • Pay Rate: $55-$60/HR

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Strategy & Planning
  • Create detailed project plans including resources, issue identification, communications, risk mitigation, and reporting.
  • Ensure business requirements are complete and clearly defined.
  • Plan project scope, goals, milestones, success factors, and required changes.
  • Develop project charters, schedules, budgets, risks, mandatory documents, missions, goals, tasks, and resource plans.
  • Lead complex projects throughout the full lifecycle.
  • Manage project change requests, resolve conflicts, and escalate as required.
  • Define and communicate success criteria to stakeholders.
  • Consult with clients to recommend technical solutions and evaluate alternative IT strategies when appropriate.
2. Acquisition & Deployment
  • Prepare budget proposals and recommend adjustments when needed.
  • Collaborate with resource managers to direct and support project team execution.
  • Ensure operational support requirements are identified and delivered.
  • Lead vendor negotiations and ensure contracts align with Salvation Army standards for high‑value or high‑profile initiatives.
  • Create project closure documentation and lead project wrap‑up meetings.
3. Operational Management
  • Collaborate with process owners, analysts, consultants, and SMEs to track project work.
  • Obtain formal approval from IT leadership and stakeholders for all deliverables.
  • Maintain full project documentation archives.
  • Report progress regularly to the IT PMO, steering committees, executives, and sponsors.
  • Proactively manage scope changes, risks, crises, and contingency planning.
  • Coach, mentor, and support project team members and contractors.
  • Escalate risks/issues promptly to minimize project impacts.
  • Lead or facilitate meetings with team members, managers, sponsors, and executives.
  • Conduct project postmortems to identify successes and opportunities for improvement.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Must‑Haves
  • 5 years managing application projects
  • Demonstrated ability to manage application projects end‑to‑end
  • Experience with Salesforce and Workday (Preferred)
Nice‑to‑Have
  • PMP certification
  • Non‑profit experience
Tools / Methodologies
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office 365 (Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint)
Soft Skills
  • Excellent communication abilities
  • Strong sense of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
  • Balanced judgment, fairness, and flexibility
Seniority Level
  • 5 years of Project Management experience
